CHEM ENG 520-0 & 520-1 First-Year Graduate Student Professional Development Seminar (AY 2021-2022)
Supervising Professor: Dr. Jennifer Cole
Developed 6 unique course objectives and plan for 10 seminar lectures to address these objectives relating to teaching first-year graduate students how topics of anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice intersect with engineering through definition of terms, analysis of situations and policies, and development of an action plan. Course content was designed to be an addition to existing Professional Development seminar course (CHEM_ENG 520), which covered concepts such as applying to fellowships, TAing, writing, using university resources, success and mental health in graduate school, and safety. Applied for and obtained approval from college for addition of this course content and extension of seminar course from 1-quarter course (taken fall of first-year) to a 2-quarter course (taken fall of both first and second years). Implemented as required course for Ph.D. and Masters degrees.
